Description
Countersink Twist Tool
This is the little screw-seat tool from our Light Switch Plate Cutter kit, on its own. Download it free as a 3D print file, or let us print one for you. It carves the angled seat around each screw hole in a clay switch plate or outlet cover, so the plate’s oval-head screws sit nice and flush instead of perching on top.
Two Ways to Get It:
- STL download, free: print it yourself on your own 3D printer. All 15 shrinkage sizes in one .zip. Nothing ships.
- Printed tool, $2.99: no 3D printer? We print it in your clay’s shrinkage rate and mail it to you. Shipping is just $1, or free when it’s added to an order with other physical items.
How It Works:
- Punch your screw holes (our Light Switch Plate Cutter does this for you, or use your own hole cutter).
- Set the little pin in a screw hole and twist clockwise, following the arrow on the handle. The two blades carve an 82° countersink, the same angle as a switch plate screw head.
- Stop when the side tabs touch the clay. They set the depth, so every seat comes out the same.
Every Shrinkage Rate:
Clay shrinks as it dries and fires, so the hole and seat have to start a little bigger to end up the right size. The download includes 15 versions, one for every clay shrinkage rate from 8% to 15% in half-percent steps (8, 8.5, 9 … 15%). The rate is printed right on each tool’s handle. Not sure what yours is? Try our free Clay Shrinkage Calculator. 12% is a good starting point for most stonewares.
File Details:
STL download: digital only, nothing ships.

Usage Notes:
The STL is free for personal use and for making your own pottery to sell. Please don’t resell, share, or re-upload the STL files. Send people the link to this page instead.
A Little Note:
This tool was the fiddliest part of making our switch plate cutter, so I wanted everyone to have it, even if you already have your own cutters. If you make a plate with it, I’d love to see it! Tag Modern Wolf Pottery. ♥
